Boston Celtics forward Chris Boucher has been traded to the Utah Jazz as the NBA’s Feb. 5 trade deadline approaches, according to league reports Thursday. The move follows limited playing time for the veteran big man this season and comes months after he signed a one-year contract with Boston in August 2025.
Chris Boucher, 33, appeared in nine games for the Celtics during the 2025-26 campaign, averaging 2.3 points and 2.0 rebounds in 10.4 minutes per game, figures that reflected his reduced role in Boston’s rotation. The veteran had logged only four minutes in a single appearance since early December before the trade, underscoring his limited on-court opportunities.
Boston signed Boucher to a one-year, $3.3 million deal after trading Georges Niang to create roster flexibility and remain below the NBA’s luxury-tax threshold, team-related reporting at the time indicated. The Montreal-raised forward joined the Celtics following seven seasons with the Toronto Raptors, where he was part of the franchise’s 2019 championship team and set reserve records in multiple statistical categories.
During the 2024-25 season in Toronto, Chris Boucher averaged 10.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in 17.2 minutes across 50 games, production that helped secure his subsequent free-agent contract in Boston. Over his NBA career, he has averaged 8.9 points and 5.1 rebounds in more than 400 appearances.
Utah is expected to use Chris Boucher as frontcourt depth if he remains with the roster, and he is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
The transaction occurred amid broader league activity tied to the trade deadline, when teams often adjust rosters for playoff positioning or salary considerations.
