Chicago — The Detroit Pistons have agreed to trade guard Jaden Ivey to the Chicago Bulls as part of a three-team deal that also involves the Minnesota Timberwolves, sources confirmed Wednesday. The transaction comes just days before the NBA’s Feb. 6 trade deadline, reshaping rosters in the Eastern Conference and marking a significant move for the 23-year-old former top-five draft pick.
Jaden Ivey, a 2002-born guard who was selected fifth overall by Detroit in the 2022 NBA Draft out of Purdue University, will join the Bulls alongside veteran point guard Mike Conley Jr., according to ESPN and Associated Press reports. In return, the Pistons acquire swingman Kevin Huerter, forward Dario Šarić and a 2026 first-round protected pick swap from Minnesota. The Timberwolves will receive cash considerations in the multi-team arrangement.
The deal was confirmed by team sources and league insiders on Tuesday afternoon. Jaden Ivey role with Detroit had diminished this season amid a return from injury, as he averaged 8.2 points and 1.6 assists while seeing his minutes reduced from prior campaigns.
Detroit, which currently leads the Eastern Conference standings, addressed a roster need for perimeter shooting by adding Huerter, a proven long-range scorer, and maintained financial flexibility with Šarić’s contract and the future draft asset. Jaden Ivey move follows a season that saw him struggle to regain his pre-injury form after a broken leg and subsequent knee surgery limited his production and playing time. In his first three NBA seasons with the Pistons, he averaged double-figure scoring and was considered one of the franchise’s foundational pieces before injuries hindered his momentum.
In Detroit’s locker room, teammates reacted emotionally to the news. Pistons wing Ausar Thompson described Ivey as “a brother for life” following the team’s game Tuesday, underscoring the personal impact of the professional transaction.
