Premier League side Chelsea have parted ways with head coach Enzo Maresca, the club confirmed on Thursday, ending a brief tenure marked by internal disagreements and inconsistent results. The decision was reached by mutual consent following discussions between club executives and Maresca, according to officials familiar with the matter, as Chelsea reassess their sporting direction midway through the season.
Chelsea said the separation followed a breakdown in working relationships between Maresca and senior figures at the club, with differences emerging over recruitment strategy, player roles, and long-term planning. Sources close to the club indicated that performances in domestic competition and concerns over tactical consistency contributed to the decision.
Maresca, who was appointed with a mandate to implement a possession-based system and integrate younger players, oversaw a mixed run of results in league and cup competitions. While Chelsea showed flashes of progress, the team struggled for consistency against top-half opponents, leaving the club outside its expected league position.
