The Kansas City Chiefs confirmed Wednesday that they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulating on social media involving wide receiver Rashee Rice and are in communication with the National Football League, the team said in a brief statement that did not name the player or provide additional details. The acknowledgment comes after an ex-girlfriend posted images and claims of abuse on Instagram.
The Instagram post, shared Wednesday by Dacoda Nichole Jones, included several photos appearing to show bruises and what she described as years of physical abuse in a lengthy caption. Jones did not explicitly name Rice but identified the individual as the father of her children; she and Rice share two children, according to multiple reports.
In their statement, the Chiefs said the club was aware of the allegations “on social media” and that they were in contact with the NFL, adding they had no further comment at this time. There is no public record of any criminal charges related to these claims, and league officials have not detailed any formal investigation process.
Rice, 25, has previously faced off-field scrutiny. In 2024 he was involved in a high-speed hit-and-run crash in Dallas that injured multiple people; he later pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges and was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation. He served a six-game suspension under the NFL’s personal conduct policy at the start of the 2025 season due to that incident.
On the field, Rice has been a key contributor since being drafted in the second round by the Chiefs in 2023 out of Southern Methodist University, helping Kansas City to a Super Bowl LVIII victory as a rookie.
The Chiefs have not indicated any changes to Rice’s roster status pending the situation. The NFL traditionally reviews personal conduct allegations and could take independent disciplinary action depending on the outcome of any investigation, a process that has not been publicly outlined.
