Debbie Harry, lead singer and co-founder of Blondie, has confirmed the band is recording a new album slated for release in 2025, according to officials, while also speaking candidly about turning 80 this summer and her plans to exhibit decades of memorabilia. The announcement follows a series of public statements from Harry and bandmate Chris Stein about Blondie’s future, the company said. The record would be the group’s first since 2017’s ‘Pollinator’, the report stated.

Blondie co-founder and guitarist Chris Stein shared a black-and-white photo of Debbie Harry in the studio on his official Instagram account, with the caption: “New Blondie album next year.” The post confirmed new work from the New York new wave group is underway. No release date, title, or tracklist has been disclosed at this time.

The upcoming record will be produced by John Congleton, who also produced ‘Pollinator’, the band said. Congleton’s credits include work with St. Vincent, Phoebe Bridgers, and The War on Drugs. Blondie’s last album featured co-writers such as Charli XCX, Johnny Marr, and Nick Valensi of The Strokes.

Debbie Harry will turn 80 on July 1, 2025. In a recent interview with The Times, she said, “I don’t walk around thinking every minute, ‘Oh God, I’m going to be 80’ – but that’s sort of how I feel.” She added, “My mother used to say in her head she was 25 and I’m the same. But thinking about it all the time could be your downfall.” Harry described aging as having its own “beauty,” according to the report.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Debbie Harry said she has preserved nearly all of her stage attire and related paraphernalia from her five-decade career. She is considering an exhibition of her extensive collection of Blondie memorabilia to give fans a look at the band’s history, she said. The collection includes items from Blondie’s formation in 1974 through their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.

Formed by Debbie Harry and Chris Stein, Blondie has sold over 40 million records worldwide. The group is known for integrating punk, new wave, reggae, disco, and early hip-hop into hits like Heart of Glass, Call Me, and Rapture. The band remains active in the studio, Stein said.

Separately, the Smithsonian’s Archives of American Art recently acquired more than 400 rarely seen stereoscopic images taken by artist Ronnie Cutrone at Andy Warhol’s Factory, including photographs of Harry, David Hockney, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Al Green, the institution said. Harry also co-hosted the U.S. debut of artist Charlie le Mindu’s performance work “CHARLIEWOOD” in New York City, according to event organizers.
