OMAHA, United States — Creighton men’s basketball head coach Greg McDermott is entering the upcoming season focused on roster stability and postseason consistency, as the Bluejays look to build on recent tournament appearances, according to team statements and recent media briefings. McDermott, who has led the program since 2010, emphasized player development and defensive improvements as central priorities.
Creighton has remained a competitive force in the Big East Conference under Greg McDermott, regularly qualifying for the NCAA Tournament over the past decade. The program reached the Elite Eight in 2023, marking one of its deepest runs in school history.
Speaking during offseason availability, Greg McDermott highlighted returning players and new additions as key to maintaining continuity. “Experience and cohesion are critical at this level,” he said, noting the importance of integrating younger talent without disrupting team chemistry.
The Bluejays have built a reputation for efficient offense, often ranking among the nation’s leaders in scoring metrics. However, recent seasons have exposed defensive inconsistencies, an area McDermott acknowledged requires attention heading into the new campaign.
Creighton’s recruiting efforts have also focused on versatility, with an emphasis on players capable of contributing on both ends of the floor. Analysts note that Greg McDermott system relies heavily on spacing, shooting, and disciplined execution, making adaptability a key trait for incoming athletes.
Greg McDermott, who previously coached at programs including Northern Iowa and Iowa State, has compiled one of the most successful coaching tenures in Creighton history. His leadership has coincided with the school’s transition into the Big East, where it has established itself as a regular contender.
Looking ahead, the team is expected to face strong competition within the conference, including perennial contenders such as UConn and Marquette. Preseason evaluations suggest Creighton will again be in contention for a high tournament seed if it addresses defensive gaps.
Team officials have not announced any major changes to staff or strategy beyond ongoing adjustments during preseason training. The program is scheduled to open its season later this year, with full roster details to be finalized in the coming weeks.
